Alex made a horrible decision. He had plenty of money to purchase things that would have been useful. But instead he thought he was such a great guy that he gave it all away and had to scrape together crappy supplies. he doomed himself by giving away all of his money.
The main character made good decisions in his own mind since this is what he needed to do in his life in order for himself to feel complete. Yet, in many other people's opinions they would probably say that Chris made very poor decisions. In my opinion it was very much both since Alexander was a very free spirit and it was a good idea that he freed himself and did this. On the other hand it was a bad idea and hewas being an ignorant jackass that should have taken precautions in order to keep himself alive.
In my opinion Alex made bad decisions. He never should have gone into the wild in the first place, but nobody could have stopped him from doing it. I think he could of survived if he would of been more prepared. But no, he insisted that he would be fine if he went out there completely unprepared. So in my eyes he made terrible decisions, but in his own he felt he was making the right decision.
Alex definantly made poor decisions along the way in his journey. Maybe his idea of trying to survive the wild and feel like his own master of his destiny was somewhat of a good choice but he followed it with terrible ones. At least go prepared, and when Wayne told him straight up he had insufficient supplies he should have gone to the store to get the supplies instead of just go for it.
I believe that the main character made bad decisions with his overall life but made some good decisions throughout his adventures across America. The worst decision he could have made was not taking any gear into the wild with him even if its a thick snow jacket and some waterproof boots to keep your feet warm and dry overall he made bad decisions
